Two
childhood friends from Bradford are hoping that Peppo and Frew will help
wailing babies become a thing of the past.
The young ducklings are the brainchild of Annie Heyes and Josie Wood,
and feature on a CD to help children nod off at night time.
The pair who first met at Woodhouse Grove School 25 years ago, have given
up their jobs and invested £3,000 each to establish Sounds Dreamy
Ltd.
Mrs Heyes a former childcare worker, and Mrs Wood, a trained counsellor
have spent a year devising the characters for the CD.
As well as the ducklings, the two 41 year-olds have created the Hugwood
Kangaroos, Bingo, Meadow and Flute, who feature on a separate CD.
The duo have written stories for the two 40-minute tales, which are made
up of narrative, poetry and nursery rhymes.
They provide all the narrative and voices and spent weeks in the studio
putting the tales together.
Mrs Heyes of Bolton Abbey and Mrs Wood of Addingham, have produced 2,000
copies of the stories which were launched earlier this month.
Mrs Heyes said sales had started positively and the pair were hoping for
real success over the festive season.
We'd been talking about setting up our own business for a while and just
felt with this idea there was a real niche in the market, she said.
"We think the format we have taken for this venture is unique as
it actively encourages sleep.
"Josie has two children of her own and has often said how difficult
it has been over the years getting them to drop off at night."
Mrs Heyes said the story is set with the characters getting ready for
bed to help youngsters relax for sleep.
"We feel the stories have a great calming effect," she said.
"What we've done is started the narrative at a quick tempo to engage
the children and progressively it gets slower and slower taking the tempo
down and down until eventually the tale takes up a form of meditation.
"The tales are one complete story 40 minutes long but youngsters
can skip them on to their favourite poem or song."
The business partners also enlisted the help of Simone Abel to illustrate
the characters for the covers of the CDs.
The Ducklings CD is aimed at children aged one to four and the tale of
the Hugwood kangaroos is suitable for three to six-year-olds.

then slow to become more relaxing. They are interspersed with dreamy songs
and poetry aimed at guiding the listener to the land of nod.
The CDs are the brain child of Annie Heyes and Josie Wood from Addingham
near Ilkley, who have formed their own small business Sounds Dreamy to
sell the idea to parents who struggle getting their children to sleep.
The CDs cost £12.99 each and can be ordered by calling: 01943 839941

LOVE FROM SOUNDS DREAMY
Yorkshire Women's Post - March 3rd 2004
From Sounds Dreamy Ltd
As a result of our children's bedtime CDs appearing in your Love/hate
section (under Love!) we drew the attention of a hospital radio in Middlesborough.
SouthSide Radio subsequently interviewed us and played some CD tracks
live on air but most heartening of all, the CDs are now bringing some
comfort and ease to the children's ward. We couldn't have planned this
if we'd tried and we are so pleased the CDs, which are designed to help
children towards an easy peaceful sleep, are benefiting children in this
way.
So, thank you WP from Sounds Dreamy for helping us to help others. For
anyone thinking: yes, I'd like some of that to help my little ones to
sleep, the CDs are available at Borders bookshop, Leeds and on-line at

WOMEN AIM TO GET A GOOD SLEEP
The Ilkley Gazette - January 29th 2004
Parent's lacking a goodnight's sleep could find relief in the business
venture of two Wharfedale women.
Addingham mother Josie Wood and business partner Annie Heyes of Bolton
Abbey are writing and producing their own unique CDs they believe could
be a hit with exhausted mums and dads everywhere.
Already their Sounds Dreamy CDs - which trials prove can lull youngsters
to sleep - is on sale in a number of shops. Now the two best friends are
hoping to find a wider market for the CDs as they approach major bookshops,
children's clothing stores and other high street names.
Mrs Wood and Mrs Heyes designed the CDs not only to help children sleep
but also to help give parents a therapeutic night's rest.
They have so far produced two 40-minute CDs - one story and song CD for
smaller children aged one to four entitled The Ducklings which centres
on a magical swan soothing two tiny ducklings as she take them home to
Mummy Duck.
Three to six year olds can settle down at bedtime to the tales of the
Hugwood Kangaroos who go stay with their Auntie Melba in a beautiful house
in the countryside.
Josie has two children and she was having problems getting them to sleep,"
said Mrs Heyes. "She went out in the market place looking for something
looking for something she could leave on - although she still reads them
a story - but there just wasn't anything." Said Mrs Heyes.
The two friends got together to work on recordings they hoped would be
suitable to leave playing in a child's bedroom if the parents are out
of the room, and can also be played if the child wakes up in the middle
of the night, and needs reassurance.
The tales and songs themselves are designed to be relaxing and comforting
to young children rather than traditional stories which may excite or
frighten them.
Mrs wood and Mrs Heyes wrote and provided the voice-overs, poetry reading
and singing on the CDs themselves, all recorded at local studios.
Mrs Wood and Mrs Heyes are now planning to meet with national high street
children's clothing and toy store Mothercare in a bid to sell the CDs
nation-wide.

PROMISES SWEET DREAMS
The Craven Herald - February 6th 2004
Two Wharfedale friends have formed a CD company which is likely to answer
many a parents prayers.
Sounds Dreamy Ltd is the brainchild of Annie Heyes of Bolton Abbey and
Josie Wood of Addingham, and emerged as a consequence of not being able
to find anything in book or CD form that lulled children to sleep.
"Everything had either screechy owls or monsters under the bed,"
explained Mrs Heyes who works as a psychotherapist at the Craven Clinic
in Skipton.
Her friend, Mrs wood, has two small children and sometimes encouraging
them to get some sleep was easier said than done.
The pair decided to look at creating CDs of their own.
Mrs Wood's musical talents became useful in putting music to the lyrics
written by Mrs Heyes wife of Bolton Abbey estate manager, Ben Heyes.
Mrs Wood provided the voice for the songs and poems
" We spent a long time researching the product before we went ahead
and that has resulted in two 40-minute CDs the Ducklings for the one to
four age group and the Hugwood Kangaroos for those aged three to six years,"
explained Mrs Heyes.
Each disc has its own characters with such wonderful names as Bingo Meadow
and Flute and ducklings Peppo and Frew.
"A lively start to each CD makes sure the child's attention is engaged
and then the tempo gradually gets slower and sleepier. The heart-warming
story lines include sleepy songs and gentle poetry. All the material is
original and very yawny. Says Mrs Heyes.
Each of the CDs can be played as individual tracks if preferred. They
are priced at £12.99 and are available from Bolton Abbey estate
shops and the Craven Clinic.
For more information about the CDs you can visit the website on www.soundsdreamy.com
DREAM BUSINESS
The Craven Herald - February 20th 2004
There must be loads of sleepy children around the Dales after the sell-out
success of a sleep enhancing CD launched by two craven women. Sounds Dreamy
bedtime CDs was the brainchild of Annie Heyes of Bolton Abbey and Addingham's
Josie Wood, who got their heads together to create The Ducklings and The
Hugwood Kangaroos. They feature a combination of music, stories and poems
which gradually get slower and slower to lull a restless child to sleep.
The CD sales have exceeded forecast figures and were sold out over one
weekend from the shops in Bolton Abbey. In addition the CDs can be bought
from Borders bookshop in Leeds.
SWEETER DREAMS IN STORE FOR CHILDREN AND PARENTS
The Keighley News - March 5th 2004
Keighley businesses are backing a new company set up to send children
to sleep!
Sounds dreamy Ltd of Addingham has produced a range of CDs designed to
help lull youngsters into slumber.
They feature original stories, incorporating sleepy songs and poetry.
Keighley's prestste Printers was chosen to help create the packaging and
stockists of the product include babyScene at Stockbridge.
Josie Wood - who runs the company with business partner Annie Heyes -
told us: "Our bank is also in Keighley, so the town has featured
a lot in helping us launch our venture.
The CDs are a new concept for children's bedtime, because they have been
specifically designed to guide children to sleep.
They are kind and gentle in content with no scary monsters lurking under
the bed."

DREAMS
COME TRUE FOR CREATORS OF SLEEP CDs
Craven Herald - March 26th 2004
A couple of Craven friends who got their heads together to produce a
unique set of CDs to help children get to sleep have seen their creations
soar to new heights.
Annie Heyes of Bolton Abbey and Josie Wood, of Addingham, created Sounds
Dreamy, a compilation of two CDs - The Ducklings for one to four year-year-olds
and Hugwood Kangaroos for three -to-six year olds. The CDs, which are
a clever mix of stories, songs and poems, have found their way to James
Cook Hospital, in Middlesborough where they are being used as a therapeutic
tool in the children's ward.
In addition, the ladies have just returned from the London book Fair at
Olympia where Annie and Josie rubbed shoulders with big names like Penguin
and random House.
A publishing company showed great deal of interest and have taken copies
off to the Bologna Children's Book Fair to test drive them with buyers.
Another company looking to expand its audio range wants a further meeting.
"We're trying not to get too excited about a publishing deal, but
at least things are moving in the right direction," said Annie.
Sales have already exceeded expectation locally with stocks now available
at borders Bookshop in Leeds, babyScene in Keighley and SmartyPants in
Ben Rhydding. The shelves have also been kept stocked up in the Bolton
Abbey shops which sold out in the first weekend the CDs were launched.
The friends, both aged 41, came up with the idea of the CDs after a search
for something similar around 12 months ago drew a complete blank. "There
was just nothing around that didn't contain screechy owls or monsters,"
explained Annie.
After getting their heads together the couple came up with the two ideas.
They used their own voices to record the content of the albums and launched
them on the public a few weeks ago.

Right Start Magazine - April/May2004
We all want our children to drift happily off to sleep at bedtime and
here's a gentle way to achieve that. Sounds Dreamy bedtime CDs begin with
a lively start to make sure your child's attention has been caught. Then
the stories wind down and get slower, lulling your child into a relaxed
sate where they can fall asleep. The Ducklings is aimed at one-to-four
year olds; The Hugwood Kangaroos is aimed at three to six-year olds. Each
lasts forty minutes. www.soundsdreamy.com
